HYT Tests SketchUp for Building Design

Overview of the 2.5 Classroom Block
Recently the HYT team has been experimenting with a new piece of software that allows detailed 3D models of structures to be generated prior to work beginning on site. Commonly used by architects across the world, Sketchup is a free tool that allows all parties to visualise and alter the finished product before work begins on the ground, thereby lowering the chances of changes being made to the project specifications mid-build.

In an environment where language barriers present their own challenges, a picture is often the best way of ensuring that designs on the drawing board make it in to reality on the ground. We will be testing out this new tool extensively over the next few projects with the first being a two classroom block for our upcoming partnership with a British NGO, onebillion. Have a glance over the designs and head on over to their website to see what they’re up to - we'll post more about this exciting project when we get closer to breaking ground.
