HYT was recently recognised by Scandinavian think tank,
Sustainia, as one of as one of the world’s leading innovators. While there were
nearly a thousand nominations from around the world that were researched, what
caught the eye of Sustainia is HYT’s promotion and use of the
environmentally-friendly construction technology, the Interlocking Stabilised
Soil Block. HYT was one of ten organisations selected in the building category.
HYT received praise for its work in spreading ISSB technology throughout Uganda via training programs in rural communities. As more masons become trained in the ways of building with ISSB, HYT is able to develop their skills further until they are able to pass on the training to others, further spreading the technology.
‘The selected Sustainia 100 solutions are an inspiration to
companies, cities and consumers worldwide, said Laura Storm, Director of
Sustainia.
Russell Matcham, HYT’s Director added, ‘We are delighted that the Trust’s work in sustainable development is gaining recognition on an international stage.’
