The past week has seen HYT begin their 6th ‘One Village at a
Time’ project, by interviewing 24 people, in the village of Kimenyulo. A month
ago, men local to this village were given the opportunity to apply to be trained
by HYT in ISSB technology. HYT received letters from over 20 willing applicants
ranging from ages 20 to 56. They were all invited to be interviewed to see if
they would suit the training programme.
A week on, the process of selecting just 8 people to
undergo training has begun back in Jinja using the expertise of our Operations
Manager, Mr Phillip, and our Head Trainer, Mr Freddo.
Each applicant was interviewed by our ‘intimidating’ panel

After the basic information of name, age and school level had
been taken down, questions on family, current work and reasons for joining HYT
were asked; the latter, as the most important question, provided much of the
insight into who would make a successful HYT trainee. Responses directed more at the desire to be
trained were considered to be very positive, however, income seemed to be a repeating
issue as was expected in the rural regions of Kamuli.

for a while asks a group of six to build a tower with solely a stack of
newspapers – the taller the tower, the better.
The successful day concluded, and back in Jinja, after a ‘panel’ meeting, a team will be assembled to begin training and building at the school in the coming two weeks. One village at a time is about to become two...
