Reflections of a Geographer

In late October, HYT was visited by a party of Geographers from Haileybury College, UK, and was delighted to recently receive from pupil Taba Rimmell her reflections upon their visit to St Andrew's Secondary School in Naminage, HYT's fifth One Village At A Time project:

Meeting with the children of St Andrews SS

“Uganda was an amazing experience for everyone; my best memories come from the two days we spent in the HYT village. Although I wouldn't expect posho and beans to be my favourite meal I enjoyed eating it amongst the company of the St. Andrew's students and staff. Not only did they go out of their way to prepare dances and songs for us but they were also very welcoming by giving us local treats such as sugar canes and green oranges. It was great to see the active involvement of the newly trained men to redevelop a more sustainable school and community for future generations. Despite the language barrier, the day was filled with laughter and smiles from all the school children.”
