One Village at a Time: Monitoring and Evaluation
HYT does what it says in improving lives.
A recent survey of HYT’s first One Village partner,
Kasokaso, confirmed the Trust’s work has made a dramatic difference to the
secondary school it supported and to the lives of both staff and students.

· After HYT’s work in improving sanitation, the
school community built a further latrine, using its own resources
·
Increased number of latrines means greater
privacy and hygiene

The 3 water tanks constructed means students no
longer have a 3 km walk for water
·
Students can have up to 2 hours a day studying
instead of having to fetch water
·
Students no longer avoid school when they knew
they would have to get water from the distant borehole

Other renovations
·
Improved facilities for staff means teachers
spend more time at school and in helping students
·
Since dormitory renovation, the number of girls
boarding has doubled, increasing income and enabling the school to hire two
more teachers

The HYT-built Counsellor’s Office allows the
Counsellor to support students in issues such as pregnancy, truancy and careers
·
The renovated ‘Attlee Hall’ is hired out to the
community, generating income for the school

Training and legacy
·
Several of the HYT trainees from Kasokaso have
continued to work with HYT
·
Two of the trainees have become Senior Trainers
and Site Managers for the Trust
·
The school has continued to use ISSB for
further, small projects
·
The Ugandan government, following a recent
inspection, agreed to support this thriving school still further
·
There has been a 30% rise in pupil roll
