The day begun with a few speeches during which we were informed that since work has begun in October the student count has risen from 12 to 35. This was due to the local community recognising that this was an area of renovation and improvement therefore enticing them to become part of this programme. The kitchen and water tank were then officially opened, ready for use.

Following on from the opening of the kitchen and 7,000 litre water tank, HYT then showed the college how to light the stove, use it properly and safely to allow the smoke to be directed through the chimney. This led to the college preparing a meal for us using the brand new stoves for the first time.
At the end of the day, we awarded the trainees of this project their certificates, all of the trainees completed the training programme with either distinction or merit.

The day proved to be a great success and we shall be returning in a few months to ensure the new facilities are being maintained and used to their maximum potential as well as monitoring the wood usage in the kitchen in order to further improve the efficiency of our kitchens in future projects.
