In the three months that I have been in
Uganda volunteering for HYT, progress has been remarkable across all of the
projects. At lakesite, I have seen the whole process in action from the initial
ground breaking up to last week were the finishing touches were completed.

In Makoka the teachers accommodation is now
finished after the school group from Haileybury painted the outside of the
building. A shower block has also being constructed and a pit latrine is well
under way. This was especially pleasing for me to see, as over the last three
months I have spent a couple of weeks staying with our trainers in the village
and trying to help out where needed during the day. Furthermore, from getting
to know the trainees and the local villagers I can see how much of a difference
HYT is making to their lives.
One of the things I have been most
impressed with, is the training projects that HYT carry out. Presently there
are three projects in the Jinja and Kampala areas that are also training the
local villagers in ISSB technology showing HYT’s commitment to making a
sustainable difference. Hopefully this will mean that these individuals will
have the skills and knowledge to gain further employment after finishing with
HYT and can use these skills to help the local area to continue to develop.

Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed my time
in Jinja and getting to know the HYT team has been a real highlight. Seeing the
difference that HYT is making is truly extraordinary, especially as we are
still growing and developing. It all points to an extremely bright future where
more and more people will benefit from the skills and knowledge in ISSB
technology that HYT already has. I wish to thank the whole team for making my
time here so enjoyable and I wish them all the best in the future.
