Work in IV4 is progressing well under the guidance of
Phillip and Freddo. The teacher’s housing is now completed and renovation has
begun on the existing kitchen, which will eventually be fitted with two of HYT’s
fuel efficient stoves. The trainees have also laid the foundations for the
shower block and work has started on the new pit latrine that the school is in desperate
need for.
HYT is also about to begin work alongside Rotary
International, who have commissioned a grant to improve water and sanitation in
villages surrounding Jinja. The grant will allow HYT to train 20 local
villagers in ISSB technology, build fourteen 20,000 litre ISSB water tanks, 8
pit latrines and 8 wash rooms in a total of 14 villages. This will be HYT’s
largest project to date and an extremely encouraging venture as HYT look to grow
and develop.
We are also expecting a school trip from Kipling House
Haileybury to come out in a couple of weeks, who will get to spent time in our
completed IV projects. They will also stay the night in Makoka where they will
be painting the teachers accommodation and helping out around the school were
needed.
