The Village to Village Challenge by Ryan, Rebecca and Jamie

Yesterday, the 28th June, saw the annual HYT fundraiser, which this year took form in a 'Village to Village Challenge'. The HYT team ran from Namaganda Primary School (1V3) to Makoka Primary School (1V4) and back in order to raise money to train the new ISSB technicians at Makoka.

The day commenced with a ceremony to award the Ugandan Gap Students from Namaganda with certificates to thank them for the great work they have done. We also handed over mosquito nets and desks donated by Edmonstone House (see previous blog).

After much anticipation the Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association blew the whistle. Unfortunately for us it was mid-day and the sun was out in full force.

After 7km we reached Makoka Primary School and each pulled a brick using the ISSB press. These will then be used to construct the Teachers' Accomodation Block, the first building of 1V4. Having struggled to press a brick, we continued our arduous run back to Namaganda.

The whole way through we were accompanied by the children, parents and teachers of Namaganda Primary School; all of whom spontaneously decided to run once we began. All the HYT team were kitted out with training gear whereas the children were running in uniform, with no shoes. Not only did they do this, but they managed to run with us the whole way, barely breaking a sweat. To our amazement, one of these children was only 4 years old!

All in all we ran a distance of 14km and the full amount raised has not yet been determined, but we will keep you posted. Any more donations will of course be greatly appreciated, we would love to help the people of Namaganda as much as we can.
Follow any of these links to donate, thank you!
