First Impression of Uganda and HYT's work by Jamie Blanshard

Going to Namaganda was an amazing experience.  Before coming out here I had been travelling SE Asia for four months and I found the week in the village was more eye opening than the whole time I spent in Asia. What was great was being able to experience their way of life firsthand as we would eat the same diet as the locals of pocha and beans; sleeping on the floor of the house and have no running water or anything which before I would always take for granted.

I thought the work which had been done on the school was truly outstanding. Before I went I had been shown  a picture of what the site was like at the start of the construction and the change was incredible. I found I could really appreciate the hard work and planning which had gone into the school as I was working as a Project Manager on a building site to fund my gap year. The considerable difference was everything here had been done by hand.

I am really pleased that I came when I did as I could attend the opening ceremony and witness how grateful all of the locals were for HYT's hard work.
